Yamaha have brought back the Fazer name to their repertoire of products, but not on what you might think. No, the new Fazer isn’t actually the bulletproof motorcycle that we all fondly remember, it’s actually the name of an unmanned helicopter that helps with agricultural or mapping applications.
In essence, it’s a big-ass, remote controlled helicopter that uses tanks that can aid in the distribution of liquid or granular products across crops. In our eyes though, it’s a big industrial toy, the kind that will get you in all kinds of trouble with the neighbours.
It replaces an older RMax helicopter, a two-stroke chopper that has been in Yamaha’s range since 1997. It now features a four-stroke motor that is both cleaner and quieter, and can also carry twice as much stuff. But don’t go thinking about any crazy ride-alongs or stupid stunts because it’ll only take a max payload of 35kg.
It’s used to assist in applications on crops that might be hard to reach by tractor because of difficult terrain or because it might be impractical to use large vehicles without causing damage to the crops.
Despite this, we still think it would be fun to use one to drop water on the neighbour’s dog when it won’t stop yapping, but maybe that’s just us.
