Yamaha recalls 2,640 SMAX scooters to replace speed sensor assembly by Dealernews

Yamaha Motor Corp. USA in mid-December announced it was recalling about 2,640 XC155F SMAX scooters from the 2015 model year, because a speed sensor wire can break.

In the affected scooters, Yamaha reported that the speedometer’s speed sensor lead wire clamping is insufficient to stabilize the lead wires during turning and front suspension action. This can allow the sensor lead wire to fatigue and break. If that happens, the speedometer will stop working.

The units were manufactured between Sept. 17, 2014, and Oct. 27, 2015. Yamaha is notifying owners, and Dealers will need replace the speed sensor assembly. The recall is expected to begin this month.
